Here’s a few quick facts about the city of Granada:

 Location

Granada is the capital city of the Granada province, which is located in the Andalusia region of Spain. It is a one-hour car ride away from the Costa Tropical, also known as the Mediterranean Coast. Granada is also located at the very foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountain chain, which adds a remote feeling to some areas, as well as a beautiful backdrop in all directions, for the entire city.

  Architecture

Spanish Renaissance architecture is prevalent in Granada, with many older buildings still used and cared for. From small homes to large, beautiful castles (such as the Palace of Charles V), the buildings are simply beautiful and add a lot to the scenery around Granada.

  Weather

Granada’s weather can be quite varied. Its summers are quite hot and dry with daily temperatures on average reaching 34°C (94°F) in July, however, temperatures can easily reach over 40°C (104°F)!  Winters are wet and cold, and most of the rain comes during November through January. January is also its coldest month and it can feel quite chilly as the temperature drops but it does have a daytime average of around 13°C (55°F) Evenings in January can feel very cold, as it is known to drop to 1°C (34°F).  Frost is also common because the temperature does hover below – freezing for a few hours early morning. Autumn and spring do not offer a constant predictable weather or average temperature as it can range from mild to warm but there is usually a lot of rain.

  How to get to Granada

Granada has a small airport, but in order to fly into it, you would need to fly into Malaga first, and then hop on a domestic flight to Granada. Because the price can be higher, most people choose to fly into the Malaga Airport, and then use another means of transportation, such as a taxi, car rental, or bus, to get into Granada. You can also choose to get to Granada by train, which is a common mode of transport.

Granada is a lovely city with plenty of things to do for visitors of all ages! If you enjoy sightseeing, there are a few places you won’t want to miss while you’re here, including Alhambra, the Royal Chapel of Granada, and the Palace of Charles V. If you enjoy being out in nature, feel free to take a backpacking trip through the Sierra Nevada Mountains – there are guided tours available, or you can feel free to pack up your gear and set out for a day on your own. Granada is home to many beautiful parks, so there is always something new to see and do. The nightlife here consists of bars, clubs, restaurants, and music venues, and there are plenty of museums and galleries around for those who wish to familiarize themselves with the culture.
