The Area - Geography

The land is an area of great beauty encompassing something for everyone from the rugged mountains, rolling hills and valleys and a coastline of craggy rocks, creeks and caves and endless blue flag beaches and the Mediterranean sea. The countryside is both green and colourful with sweet smelling orange, lemon, olive and almond trees, vineyards and scattering of villages and coastal towns. The main towns of Javea, Moraira, Calpe and Denia are very different but all very cosmopolitan. A little further north is the town of Gandia which is still very Spanish and famous for the Borgia family.

Javea

Javea is a town of incredible beauty and often referred to as the "Jewel in the Crown" of the Costa Blanca. Situated in a bay framed by the Capes of La Nau and Sant Antoni and backed by the Montgo mountain, it therefore has its own unique micro-climate.

Javea encompasses three distinctly different areas:

  • The old town with its narrow streets displays medieval history
  • The Port with its fishing boats, Nautical Club and tropical palm lined promonade
  • The Arenal, with its promenade, sandy beach and a host of shops bars and restaurants

There are fourteen Miradors at various vantage points around the town giving breathtaking views for miles around.

Moraira

Moraira is a small town carefully developed with the aim of preserving the coastline. Low rise buildings are clustered next to the well known sandy beach, marina and promenade. An abundance of top quality restaurants and secluded bars are the star attraction for locals and visitors alike. Moraira's secret is a stunning secluded little beach called El Portet which, with its clear turquoise water, is very popular with swimmers and divers.

Denia

Denia is the capital of the Marina Alta region and situated on the coast midway between Valencia and Alicante airports. The town is famous for its 16 th century castle that towers above the old town which is a showcase of architecture through the ages.

The old fishing port has been extensively enlarged and improved and now not only harbours the fishing fleet but is home to some of the most impressive boats on the Mediterranean. Ferries travel to Ibiza and Mallorca.

This modern cosmopolitan town with its history, shops, port and blue flag beaches has something for everyone whether a resident or tourist.

Calpe

One of the most famous land marks of the Costa Blanca the Penon de Ifach which towers 332 metres high. This massive limestone outcrop is the tallest rock in the entire Mediterranea.

Calpe is a very popular tourist destination with an excellent array of shops, bars, restaurants not to mention the blue flag beaches, hidden coves and fishing port.

Besides the above mention towns there are many other town and villages in close proximity worthy of note like Benissa, Ondara, Beniarbeig, Benitachell and Gata de Gorgos to name but a few.

Jalon and Orba

The Jalon and Orba valleys are stunning areas of natural beauty that contain a wealth of old and new properties to suit every ones taste. The village of Jalon is often a hive of activity with its shops, restaurants bodegas and very popular Saturday flee market.

Ontinyent

Ontinyent Is the capital of the Vall d'Albaida region nestled in the Albaida valley surrounded by the Agullent-Benicadell mountains to the South and the Serra Grossa to the North. Being substantially inland property prices are lower and it is therefore well worth the search for that property bargain.

Gandia/Oliva

Oliva is about half and hours drive North of Denia and Gandia is a further quarter of and hour further on.

Oliva town has the back drop of the Gallinera and Mustalla mountain ranges and the Playa and its blue flag beaches and small port in front. A vibrant town, rich in history and popular with the British expat community.

Gandia is a city, capital of the La Safor region and is situated beneath the imposing Mondover mountain. It differs greatly from nearby Oliva in that the residents are predominantly Spanish and it is a frequent holiday destination for Madridians. Rich in historical heritage there is a wealth of interesting places to visit like the Borgia Palace and a new modern shopping centre and shopping malls with all the designer labels.

Gandia Playa boasts one of the best and cleanest blue flag beaches in the world. It has kilometres of palm tree lined promenade, harbour and nautical club which will feature in the forthcoming Americas cup.
