The Area - Gastronomy

A wealth of culinary delights and traditional dishes await you sampled in the simplest form as "tapas" in many bars and restaurants.

Many of the coastal town have a strong fishing industry therefore fish and shelfish prevail in many dishes such as fish stews "cruel de peix" and "suc roig" or fried as "peix fregit". Rice is a main ingredient in many dishes such as "arros al forn" (oven baked), "arros amb costra" (covered with an omelette crust) and of course the traditional paella with an abundance of various fillings.

Two basic elements of many a dish are garlic and olive oil.

For the desert lovers an abundance of fruit, almonds, raisins and figs or a selection of pastries to wet anyones palate.

Finally to accompany such fine food there is an almost limitless selection of wines and local liqueurs.
